Funny Things

Here are some of the recent Livvy and Chaserisms.  I sure love these kids.

Livvy:

*When I questioned her on why she didn't eat any dinner, she said, " I didn't eat my soup because I just felt really weird about it."

*When she was sick with a cold, I told her sweets were off limits, but that she could have some honey for something sweet.  Her response while making a swirling design with her fingers-
"How about a cookie with honey on top?"

*One night Wade and I were watching a movie and she walked in, saw a kiss on the tv, and whispered to Wade,
"I just say ewww about kissing to be like the other kids."

*To me, she said one morning, " I had a dream that Daddy would not like!" "What?" I asked.  "I had a dream about a room full of KITTENS!"

*While snooping through a new house being built near us, Livvy ran into the huge master bathroom and walk-in closet.  She threw her arms in the air and exclaimed,
"THIS IS THE LIFE!"
Yep, she's a girl.  ;)

*Last Christmas, while watching the scene about the dad and the lamp on A Christmas Story, Livvy burst out laughing and said, "He thinks its like a precious woman or something!"

Chase:
my little saber tooth tigers

*Chase came bursting into the kitchen one day frantically trying to get into the drawer.  When I asked if he needed help with something, he exclaimed,
"I need a baggie for my DNA!"

*When I asked what he was watching on the computer- it was on a medical website, he said, "Oh, I just thought I'd learn how to do a heart surgery but it wasn't as fun as the brain surgery."

*I laughed so hard when Chaser asked me this one:

How many sets of teeth do you get- including fake teeth?

*March 21.  2013
Chase: I really want mommy to have a baby- A boy baby! I need a boy!
Livvy:Well, sorry, the spot has been taken by a girl. I need a girl.

Eye Contact

It's time that I catch up on some of my family stories.  I hate to see time pass by so quickly.

Sommer hates it when I share this one, so it is a must that I do! :) Its so cute.

Well, this year Sommer added ballroom dance to her schedule.  I hadn't been to any of the practices until the dress rehearsal for their Christmas show.  She and her dance partner did a phenomenal job!  After the rehearsal, and after my praises, we had this conversation:

Me (teasing): Sommer!! Look at you dancing with an older boy! How old is he??? ;)

Sommer: I don't know!!!

Me: Well, what grade is he in?

Sommer:  I don't know!!!

Me: Well, what do you know about him?

Sommer: I don't talk to him!!!

Me:  Ever?? You don't talk to him at all?

Sommer:  Ummm... I don't even make eye contact.

I laughed so hard.  Here is a this cute little dance couple doing lifts and flips- practicing for four months, and have never said one word to each other, or even eye contact.  I thought it was quite humorous.  I told Sommer that she needed to thank him for all his hard work ( and never dropping her) or something!
Wade, on the other hand,
told her he'd pay her $50 if she'd maintain her no eye contact status...
haha.

Later, I found out that is he was 2 years older.  And is now one of Braydon's good friends. :)
Here are some fun pics we took that I love of my sweet Sommer.

My Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

This is a little tribute to one of my kids favorite funny books,
Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.

Since I recently shared one of the best days of my life, I thought it would be okay to share one of my bad ones too.   Gratefully, there was no permanent harm to anyone, just a bad day.  I wrote it out all in good humor and to remember the irony.  If I laugh at myself, then maybe I can forget all the embarrassment. I do apologize for crying in all my stories.

Yes, this post is long.
The actual day felt like an eternity.

***************************************

My tired eyes awoke to three pimples bigger than the rising sun.  The busy day before had left me mountains of laundry, toys, and dishes to conquer.  I tried to start sorting out my day.
Cracking eggs, dipping bread, and scrambling for books and shoes were all set to a redundant tune of a song Chase had written about having surgery.  "Be careful what you wish for," I told him.  He kept singing.  I could tell this was going to be a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.

As we sprinted to school, he still kept singing the surgery song.  Oh, how I looked forward to that being stuck in my head all day!
I kindly asked the little songwriter to please not sing that in class all day.  He wouldn't want to get in trouble for disrupting class (or sending teacher to the psych's couch, to boot).  He frowned.  I felt bad for spoiling his good mood.
Sommer got out at the curb and Chase wrapped his tentacles to his seat.  I could feel the laser eyes boring into me as I sat in the car line- not moving in orderly fashion.   I gave a smile, an apology and lots of encouragement to my Chaser.  He didn’t budge.  I got out of the car, still sporting pajamas, bed head, and remember the pimples? Yes, they came too- without a stitch of make up to even pretend.  I physically removed the boy from my car, whispering positives in his ear.

"But you said trouble!" he cried.  "No, no.  I just meant IF you disrupt the class.  But, I know you are smarter than that.  You will be awesome.  It is going to be a great day!"  But really I could tell it was going to be a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.

"But you can't leave me!" He cried. "School is too long to be away from you!"
"Chaser, you love school!!  Once you get in there, you will be busy and have fun.  You'll be home before you know it!"  I ushered his frown and pleading eyes into the school with all the pride a mama can get when she looks like a hobo in a sea of properly dressed children and adults.
I think I'll move to Australia.
Chase gave me one last look as I left him in class. You know, the one that says,
"Don't you love me at all? "
I thought of talking to the office staff, but vanity won out as I made a beeline to my car instead.  I decided I would call until I remembered that the day before my phone bit the dust.  No phone! So, I said a prayer.
At home, I slathered some cream on my poor complexion, threw my bedding in the washer, and finally was going have some breakfast.  I ate three bites of french toast when there was a knock at the door.   My bright- eyed (and dressed for the day) neighbor was standing there with a phone.  "The school called and said Chase is having a hard day. They wanna know if you can come down." She said.

I washed off the mask with a hot tears and cold water. I threw on jeans, Braydon's flip-flops, and a ponytail.  Livvy and I sprinted to the school for the second time that day.

The counselor and I spent the next hour and a half reassuring Chase, and giving each other the condensed soup versions of what we understood about Chase’s situation.  I was a little mentally and emotionally drained when I left and Chase went back to class.

I took Livvy straight to preschool, an hour late.  As I pulled in the driveway (hungry), a neighbor stopped and talked to me about dogs and football
(I think) until I had to go back to get Livvy.

Little Livs needed extra time to finish her painting so we worked on that at preschool until it was time for her weekly dance class. Just minutes to stop by the house were all we had to get her dressed.  I did get some good reminders of all my housework that sat completely neglected too.   Livvy had eaten good snacks at preschool but, I had no time for even a quick lunch.  I grabbed her a spoon of peanut butter but forgot one for me.  I was having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day and I couldn’t even call and tell anyone.

After Livvy's dance class, It was time to pick up kids from school.  An employee working in the car line, ever so kindly yelled out that my son was in the office.
"He's been in there all afternoon.  They want you to go in."

Thank you, kind sir, for announcing that as loud as you could in front of all the parents, I thought.
 I like keeping it real.

I sprinted in the school for the third time that day, but I really wanted to go bury myself in the sandbox.  I bet those people hate the site of my face.
Again, with no phone or forewarning, I was anxious and sick at what was going on by that time.  For the next two hours, we discussed again how to lessen Chase’s tears and frustrations, while my own were building.
My confidence was dwindling-- wondering if I was a good enough mom to meet my child’s special needs. Days like that, it’s easy to feel defeated.
It was after 5 pm when I walked out those doors.
And locked myself out of the school.
A real problem when I realized that my kids were all reading in the school library.
Um...yeah.
For the next half hour, no one heard me knocking, but at least it started raining.

 When the kids came out,
Braydon told me, "I'm late for dance."
"I know. Let's go." I said.
"I also have parent teacher conferences tonight too. Right now actually." he said.
"What?? Tonight? Now???" I asked.
"Tomorrow" I said, "I am going to Australia."
Although, by this point, I’d have been slap happy at a Motel 6 in the ghetto.  (With a large Slurpee and a lawn chair of course.)

I took the younger kids home. Sommer was going to babysit and make PB&Js.
Wade had a big project at work and was going to be home late.
I pulled our open top jeep in the garage as fast as I could, but got soaked in the rain and by sitting on the wet seats.
It was a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day!

I rushed Braydon to dance and went straight to his school.  I stood cold and wet in 7 different lines to talk to his teachers for the next two hours.  All great reports, thankfully, but really I was more interested in the m&ms and sprites some teachers had at their tables.  :)
I still had not eaten all day, except three bites of French toast, and it was almost 8:00 at night.

On my way to pick up Braydon,
my windshield wiper tore apart and I could hardly see to drive in the pouring rain.  At the dance studio I ran to the door, still wearing Braydon’s flip-flops, and I slipped into a big puddle of slimy water.
My ego could have done without that.

I was wet, cold, starving, thirsty, exhausted, hurting and hopeless.
This seriously felt like the most terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.

We got home around 8:20. Wade was just pulling in too. I collapsed in his arms and would have stayed there forever, except he brought home pizza. :) (My hero)

As we put kids to bed, Chase cried for a while. I wrapped my arms around him until he felt better and fell asleep.  But, I felt awful.
I cried, No, Sobbed  when I noticed I never had a chance to dry my bedding all day and that it, like me, was soaking wet and cold.  All I wanted was to climb into bed in warm blankets and let that day be over!  I threw the bedding in the dryer and sat with my husband and cried some more.  He comforted me as I told him what a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day it had been.
 It really was.
He said some days are just like that.
Even in Australia.
And possibly at the Motel 6 too.

Livvy Logic

Livvy is definitely at that age where her ideas are just so cute!

Here are a few of her recent thoughts:

(Livvy) "Mommy and Daddy, Can I please watch a show?"

(Us) "No, we are about to have Family Home Evening.

(Livvy) "PLEASE??!!  Can I watch one?  I will listen to BOTH!!! I have two ears!"

"Mommy, if you would have another baby, it could be a boy and we could name him
Samuel or Luke or Dynamite!  Dynamite would be a good name!"

(No, I'm not pregnant, much to her dismay.)

"Daddy ((Big SIGH)), I guess I can be a big sister when I get to heaven."

(I guess she's given up on us to get the job done. LOL)

As we were hiking last week and keeping the kids from the ledge, Livvy commented,
"If they glued the mountains together, there wouldn't be an edge to fall off!" :)

These photos really have nothing to do with this post, but I just like them because they are fun.
And that's my good logic. :)

Dream Home

Remember this HGTV dream home given away a couple of months ago?
I know I always will.  As will everyone in my family.

From the moment Chase found out about this grand give-away, he entered for us every day.  He would literally jump out of bed-5 or 6 am, as soon as his conscious little brain reminded him that he could enter again.  I would wake up to him watching every virtual tour of the home and he HAD to show me what all we were going to do in our new home.  Believe me, I prepped him a thousand times and said that I was so proud of his dreams, dedication, and excitement, but many many people wanted to win that home.  We'd hope, but not get our hopes too high. He always agreed with a smile and uh-huh, but  I was so worried that this would end badly.

However, I just had to kiss him every time his cute face would light up over HIS dream home.
I know if the odds were based off desire alone, Chase would've won that house.  And he knew every square inch of it and all the other construction details.

The day came that HGTV would announce the winner. I told the kids that day that
I am sure we DID NOT win,
because the filming was probably already completed with the surprise winner.  But leading up to that day, all the kids, including Livvy, would pray that we would win that house "for Chase."  Even neighbors said the same, and I always had to chuckle at how many hearts were rooting for
my 7 year old boy.

I took the kids to my moms that evening because I needed a few last things for my calling at church the next day (I served as the children's music leader then).  Although I too wanted to see the "Big Reveal", I just had too much to still do that night.
My mom agreed to watch the program with the kids.

A little later, she called...
yep, the one I was dreading.
Oh, the guilt and worry I was feeling for not being there!!!

She said, "Now, I'm not telling on Chase to get him in trouble, but I thought you might want to know what he just did."
(oh no...)
"Well... " she continued, " He watched the show for a bit until they surprised the winner and then he got upset.  He went over to the computer, sat in the chair, and in less than a minute had moved all my desktop files to the recycle bin."

I think I must've scared the checkout lady at Target when I started laughing hysterically. My mom started laughing too.   I didn't even know he knew how to do that.  Luckily, Wade took over and paid so I could walk out and try to catch a breath.
Maybe it doesn't seem that funny now, but its just one of the typical random acts of Chase that keep life interesting.
Everyone later asked me why he did that.  It seemed obvious to me that if you spent that much time trusting that this electronic device would verify you as the rightful winner, but then failed you, you'd send it to the recycle bin too.  Or straight to the trash. ;)

The next day he and I had a good cry.  It was so sad.  And just as in my mind, I was thanking my lucky stars that at least now it is over and we don't have to enter and wait anymore, he stopped his tears and brightened up just enough to tell me that he did see the commercial for the next house and he can enter for that one real soon.

Thank
you
HGTV.

Currently known as Braydon...

One of Braydon's missions is to make goofy faces in all of his photos.  He is such a little jokester and a quick wit. :)  I love spending time and playing around with him.  He is my pride and joy. :)

Recently, he said to me, "Mama (he always calls me mama, even when his friends tease him),
I think you definitely should have another baby."
"Oh yeah?" I asked, "How come?"
(Braydon) "Because they're awesome, and so you have someone to carry on the family name..."
Of course at this point I gave him a quizzical look and so he quickly replied,
"Well, the rest of us will probably all change our names!"

Haha. Very Funny.
I actually did laugh at that one.
Braydon is such a funny kid.  He loves to joke and kid around.

Modesty for Christmas...

A couple of months ago, Livvy ran to me from the other room and SOOO excitedly, said,
"MOMMY!!!!  I just saw a commer-sal for a new Barbie, and...
 SHE HAD CLOTHES ON!!!"

I asked, "She did?"
She replied, "Yes! I ca.a.nn believe it!  I want one for Christmas, Mommy, I really do!"  Then she went on to describe the clothing, which details I can not remember.  Most likely because the wheels in my head were turning.

I then said chuckling, "Livvy, you do know that ALL Barbies come with clothes when you buy them, right?"
She looked at me puzzled and said,
"They do?"

I immediately start laughing so hard.
You see, whenever I find or wash random doll clothes, I don't actually find the doll they belong to. Like any good mother, I tuck them neatly in a well hidden plastic drawer inside the girl's closet.
But I honestly didn't realize that Livvy not only didn't know where they were, but that she entirely didn't even know they existed.  She just happily plays with a bucket of naked Barbies. End of Story.
Well, that and now it makes sense why she dresses our kitty with baby clothes.
(Bless her heart, trying to fulfill some innate desire to clothe and care for her babies.)

So for Christmas, we made sure she got some well dressed dolls.  I can't guarantee that they'll stay that way and that I'll make an effort to dress them in the future, some days its a chore just dressing myself.
Just kidding.
But now, little Livvy will know that some dolls do come with clothes and are not actually meant to be naked.
And I do promise to do a FHE lesson on modesty real soon.

Grooming Tactics

Oh! The things kids say!

The other night as we were getting the kids ready for bed, I called Chase into the bathroom to brush his teeth. He quickly scanned the toothbrush cup and said his toothbrush wasn't in there.  I told him to go look in the bathtub toys (since many nights I have them brush their teeth during their baths).  He just shrugged and said,
"Eh, I'll just use a random toothbrush." as he reached for one out of the cup.
I said, " WHAT?! A Random toothbrush?!  Eww... Chase, please don't ever use someone else's toothbrush!"
It left me seriously wondering how long that's been going on!

Then the next day, I was talking to Livvy in preparation for school starting back.  Not wanting her to be sad that she will be the only kid at home this year, I was trying to sound positive.  I said,
"Livvy, you know that the kids all go back to school in a couple of days and we will have lots of time to spend together-just you and me!" :)
She gave me the cutest grin and squealed and said, "We can have make-overs!" :)
I laughed, not knowing how she even knew what a make-over is.  Maybe it was inspiration.
I think I probably need one...
That and a new toothbrush!

Picturing the Future

We went to the parade this weekend in our little town.  It feels so great being part of such a wonderful little place to live, where my kids have great schools and friends, my husband serves on the fire department, and I am blessed with wonderful neighbors and friends. :)  I took lots of pictures of all the fun we had that day-out in celebration of our community.  Lots of cute pictures of my family.
Fortunately for me, Sommer took my camera at the parade and took some pictures too.
And I ended up in a couple.
Like This one.

I used to think that one day my kids will look through all the pictures and wonder why I was never there.
Of course, I was and am (just behind the lens).

Now, I wonder what Chase will think when he sees ones like this?
(Like why on earth did I torture him so...)

Maybe being the "photographer" is a better option...   :)

LOL.  But I still kinda like this picture...  It makes me laugh :)

Global Chaserisms

Our conversations with Chase are enlightening and still entertaining.  He has so many ideas and plans for his life.  He already invited his primary teachers to his "museum" he is building.
I laughed so hard when they told me that.  He is always collecting "stuff" for his museum and has a long list of other finds that are going to be in it.  He tells me I can come free any time I want.  Lol.
Here are a handful of current Chaserisms that I wrote down.  Love this kid. He's pretty special! :)

Me:   Chase, go wash your face so I can take your picture. (Easter)
Chase:  (Groan)... Can't you just edit it out?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chase:   Mommy, you know what I think?  I believe there are other planets in other galaxies that can support life.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chase:  Come on Livvy, let's build our time machine.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mommy, "Is that submarine on TV an Alvin?
Me: What is an Alvin?
Chase: Didn't you know? Its a bathysphere submarine.
Me: Oh, umm...yeah. ;)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chase:  Mommy, there's a yeti footprint in the yard.  (ya know, nonchalantly)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chase:  Mommy, can we go to the pool for my birthday?
Me:  Sure, we can probably do that.
Chase: But its SOOOO hard!!!!!
Me: What is so hard?!
Chase:  I mean, I do want to go to the pool for my birthday, but I also want to go to the Amazon River!!! Its too hard to decide!
Me: Ummm.... Chase, it is decided...it'll have to be the pool.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One Sunday after church:

Chase: Daddy, can you drive me to Nigeria quick?

little paleontologist
He insisted on creating his own blog one night.  It is super cute.  I love how he spells things and doesn't use punctuations just yet.  That makes it the cutest.  So take a deep breath and read through it. :)

CHASE'S BLOG

Maybe one day we'll go on one of these adventures he's planning.  Until then, I'll just enjoy the everyday ones.

A Ghost Story

As we were leaving somewhere, Sommer was worried about leaving our kitty hidden under our rocking chair that sits low to the ground.  (When he's under there, I won't let the kids sit in it so he doesn't get hurt.)

She wanted to get him out so Wade teased her,
" Who's gonna sit on him? The Ghost?"  :)
Sommer said, "The Ghost? What Ghost?!

Livvy piped in with her obvious tone,
"The Holy Ghost a-course!! He won't hurt him. He's a nice guy."

Mother's Day

Photo Translation:
Melissa: I love this baby girl.
Livvy: Can we please get this over with?
I'm still such a lucky mom with really sweet kids!  :)

Another Classic Chase Moment

A couple of weeks ago at church was our fast and testimony meeting.  I'm not always the best example of bearing my testimony anymore to the congregation  ( I used to do it more), but that day, the older kids and I actually did.  Well, of course, then Livvy, then Chase really wanted to go up.  Chase asked what he was supposed to say up there.  I told him that we just say what we feel in our hearts, and what we are thankful for.
So... Proudly he went.
I must admit I am wondering at this point how this was going to go down.  Something interesting always comes out of Chase's mouth.
When he stood up to the pulpit, he looked so cute...and brave.

 Very confidently he said,
"I'm thankful for my family.
And the gospel.
I'm thankful to come to church."
........................
Freeze
.........................
Then Chase looked out at the congregation, straight at me, and said,
"Mommy?  Now What?"
Wade and I started chuckling under our breath.  Of course I couldn't answer him. I was 15 feet away.  Then Chase, bursts into tears and very loudly, into the microphone, yells,

"I CAN'T DO IT!  IT'S TOO HARD!"

Yup, in front of the whole church...

Then he runs bolts down to us.  He was mortified. We were stifling our laughs, and our embarrassment a little too.  So many people were laughing as well.
You can expect nothing less of Chase than to put on a good show.

However, so many people came up to Chase and told him how brave he was and that he had done a good job.  And our bishop's wife called and said that Chase was the topic of their Sunday dinner conversation--that they all thought he was so cute.
And funny.
Chase is definitely a very funny boy.
Even when he's not trying to be.
Man, I love him!

Here is Chase putting on a show at the Salt Lake Temple (October/Christina's wedding).  He gathered a crowd, literally-- cameras and all.
If someone ever sees him on youtube, will you please let me know?  I'm sure it'll happen sooner or later.
Just by Chase being Chase.
That's my boy!
